Service to the University

Committees

Since arriving at Point Park University, I have devoted time to improving the overall environment around the University. Below you will find a full list of the committees I have been part of over the last five years. I look forward to continuing to serve the University.

Point Park Faculty Assembly Undergraduate Curriculum Committee

2023-Present

Co-Chair

This university wide committee is tasked to review curriculum proposals from all department throughout the university, keeping in mind our growing diverse student population and the school’s mission for academic excellence. This committee is made up of fulltime faculty members from all major schools of the University. In Fall of 2024 I was named co-chair of the committee.

Point Park Faculty Assembly Diversity and Inclusion Committee

2021-Present

Co-Chair

This university wide committee is tasked to act as a bridge between the Faculty Assembly and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. We bring information to the Faculty Assembly, convey the faculty’s wishes for further trainings, and press the administration for more diversity in hiring practices. We are active in creating safe spaces for faculty and students alike, and are pushing for policies in anti-bullying, consequences for racist and non-inclusive behavior, and more access to resources for Faculty diversity and inclusion training.

Playhouse Artistic Committee

2020-Present

This committee is tasked to review a selection of plays and make a recommendation to the artistic director of shows that would translate well to either a digital format or a hybrid format during COVID. We take into consideration the needs of our students, technology capabilities, and the requests from our student body.

2019-2020

This committee was responsible for accumulating a list of plays and musicals for the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 seasons. We were asked to make a recommendation to the artistic director based on the talents, needs, and learning objectives of the students.

As part of the Full-time Theatre Production Faculty, I help interview prospective production students and participate in information sessions, tour days, and help answer any individual questions the students have after their visits.

Service to the University

Additional Service to the Conservatory of Performing Arts

Below is a list of service I have done for the Conservatory of Perfuming Arts at Point Park University. This includes committees, program and curriculum development, and working for compensation equity.

Developed the Production Coordinator Position

2024

Working with the Head of Theatre Production, I helped establish the Production Coordinator position. This position is intended to organize and coordinate all production students into appropriate production assignments each semester, assign mentors, act as support for both mentors and students, provide guidance for the mentors, and help the production process run as smoothly as possible.

Fought for Mentorship Funds for Production Mentors

For a long time the staff served as many of our Production Mentors, advising and guiding students as they work on their production assignments, all as part of their every day operation. But as mentorship became more and more hands on and involved, the time commitment got overwhelming. We were able to set up a structure where mentors finally received compensation for the time they spent mentoring students, and the staff were acknowledged and compensated for their additional work.

Revised the Lighting Curriculum

2019 - Present

When I arrived at Point Park, the lighting curriculum was not serving the student body well. A senior lighting major was designing her first and only mainstage show and had never created a light plot before (even after completing Lighting 3). So I restructured the Lighting Design classes and the course content, and created a progression that supports each student’s skill development and fosters creative story telling. Now, most of the lighting majors graduate with at least 3 mainstage production designs, and they feel confident in working professionally in the industry.

Developing Two New Majors within COPA

2023 - Present

After noticing more student interest in cross discipline majors, I proposed two new majors to the Dean of the Conservatory of Performing Arts. The first is a Dance Production Major: this would allow students to get a solid core education in dance while also studying technical theatre and design skills. Students would find this helpful if they hope to form their own dance company and have to serve as their own manager, designer, and technician. The second is a Cinema Design and Production Major: this would allow cinema students to focus on production for the camera. They would still be able to take the intensive cinema curriculum, but also apply theatrical design and production skills to their work, thus focusing on a director of production or production design career path.

Formed the Theatre Production Portfolio Showcase

2019 - Present

As a culmination of the Professional Preparation class, I formed a portfolio showcase where students set up presentations of their work and talk about everything they have done during their tenure at Point Park. We invite everyone from the entertainment industry in the Pittsburgh area, and usually see about 60 guests. The students get practice presenting portfolios in a conference-like setting, and often receive real job offers. This has been hugely successful, and we continue to hold it each year.
