This article reflects the challenges designers and educators faced as we returned to productions during COVID. We adapted to the new safety regulations of keeping actors isolated by filming each actor in a single cube, acting by themselves. We then combined the cubes post production, creating a piece that highlighted the feeling of entrapment and isolation in one of the busiest cities in the world.
”The pandemic has opened the floodgates on a deluge of online theatre productions; beginning with Zoom readings, such offerings have gradually edged toward more sophisticated forms. To date, the most unusual example we’ve come across is Ordinary Days, presented by Pittsburgh Playhouse’s Conservatory Theatre Company. It combines live performances with digital imagery in unusually seamless fashion - a technique that works beautifully on the computer screen and uniquely serves the needs of the piece”
